Dîwan International Theatre Academy is a theatre school founded in Batman with the aim of providing theatre and art education in Kurdish, researching and analyzing the oral, vocal and physical culture (dances, plays, rituals, myths, songs, sounds, etc.) of the Kurds, which is still very much alive, and establishing its connection with contemporary theatre and theatre education and developing international cooperation in this field.
Unfortunately, Kurdish voices, languages, cultures, rites and myths are not free in Turkey. Dîwan Academy is a small but important intervention to liberate voices through art; an aesthetic and anti-colonial intervention... This intervention is based on the intellectual and practical work of Mîrza Metîn, the founding director of Şermola Performance and Dîwan Academy, which he calls Dramaturgy of Fire and Carnival of Serlhood.
